Rhenus extends German network

Rhenus Logistics has acquired, a regional logistics services provider in Germany


Germany-based Rhenus Logistics group has strengthened its network in the German state of North Rhine Westphalia by acquiring 100% of logistics company ALS Allgemeine Land- und Seespedition. ALS a leading provider of logistics services to the steel and chemical industries and its operations area in Duisburg and Bottrop aggregate 107 000 m2.


“With the integration of ALS we are expanding the Rhenus handling- and storage capacities in the Duisburg Parallehafen [near the Rhine/Ruhr confluence in Duisburg]," said Robert Novack, a member of the Rhenus Inland Ports management team. "We also see enormous growth potential with the chemical industry in Bottrop, which has excellent transport connections in the heart of the Ruhr area."


Arnd Zappe, the former owner of ALS, will stay on as Managing Director. “We are convinced that ALS within the network of the Rhenus Group can offer its customers even more extensive services. The takeover by Rhenus offers outstanding development opportunities for customers, the business sites and our employees, who can now continue their good work within the Rhenus Group."


ALS adds also warehouses for hazardous cargoes, open bonded warehouse and temperature controlled warehouses to their portfolio.
