The 397m long, 15,500 TEU Emma class vessel entered the port of Antwerp last Thursday morning (18th February, 2016) with a record draught for the port of 15.65m, breaking the previous record of 15.5m

Once the vessel docked at Deurgankdok, more than 5000 container moves were carried out, including 4300 unloading operations. The vessel left the port at around 14.00h CET, headed for Bremerhaven.

ELEONORA MAERSK forms part of the AE2 Service operated by 2M linking the Far East and Europe. The vessel arrived directly from Tanjung Pelepas. It was originally scheduled to unload cargo in Tanger-Med and Southampton first, but in order to make up for a delay at Suez, Maersk decided to sail straight to Antwerp.

Robert Walter, operations manager at Maersk, was quoted: "Thanks to the excellent collaboration between the Joint [Belgo-Dutch] Nautical Authority, the pilots, Antwerp port authority and us, we managed to make this call in Antwerp a success, which will also enable us to make up for previous lost time."
